Veteran corner, Ronde Barber who’s been around the block a time or two has seen his fair share of rookie receivers during his storied 14-year career in the NFL. Barber, a five-time Pro Bowler heaped praise on receiver Mike Williams telling Anwar S. Richardson of the Tampa Tribune “I’ve never seen a rookie come in here and know how to run routes, how to stem guys off the point, how to beat press coverage consistently.”
“Maybe he had somebody working with him. I haven’t asked him, but somebody coached him up pretty well. Either that or he has a high football IQ and he figured it out himself. The guy has talent. He’s playing that position now, the X position, where in most offenses is the guy you dial up when you need a win, and we saw that a little bit in the preseason. He has great hands and is not scared to make tough catches. Those guys usually win for you.”
The mere fact Barber has covered some of the games best receivers in his tenure as a starting corner in the National Football League – has been recognized by his peers as one of the leagues best, lends credence to the untapped potential Williams posses.
Williams who has taken a yeoman’s approach since being drafted in the fourth round, by the Bucs in this Aprils draft. Has been a pleasant surprise both on and off the field. On the field he has displayed game changing ability while maintaining a humble and classy approach in the community.
