Bates On Bills Radar

by Staff Report on January 22, 2010

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Jim Bates, who was re-leaved of his duties 10-games into the 2009 season. Is garnering interest from recently hired Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey. According to Roy Cummings, of the Tampa Tribune Gailey is eyeing Bates to become his defensive coordinator in Buffalo.

Bates who spent two years coaching under Gailey as an assistant head coach/defensive line coach during Gailey’s two-year stint as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in 1998 and 1999.

Bates indicated he has not yet met or talked with Gailey about a possible reunion, but said he is free to do so. Now, wouldn’t that be something?  If Bates in named defensive coordinator of the Bills and has success. What would that then say about the front office’s lack of player evaluation and ability to get the players needed to effectively run Bates defense in Tampa.
