Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris met late into the night, Monday with general manager Mark Dominik to discuss the ousting of defensive coordinator Jim Bates. After a dismal showing through ten games, in which the defense is ranked 26th overall and allowing 169.7 rushing yards per game. But news of the unfolding event leaked out, that Morris will be relieving Jim Bates as defensive coordinator and taking over the defensive play-calling duties. The organizational shift, presumably will have the Bucs going back to the Tampa 2, which suits the current personnel better, as they were all drafted and signed to play in the defensive scheme. that has been noted as a decade of dominance under former defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.
It’s not a surprise that Morris and company are relieving Bates of playing calling duties, but it is a surprise that it took this long for a change to be made, after such swift action was taken in regards to the firing of Jeff Jagodzinski. It’s believed that Bates will remain on the staff through the end of the season.
