Berbenich Eying Vacant QB Coach Position

by Staff Report on January 21, 2010

Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant wide receivers coach Tim Berbenich who has been rumored to be a front runner to be promoted to wide receivers coach, after the team allowed Ricahrd Mann to seek employment elsewhere. According to Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com a twist could be on the horizon, as Berbenich, 30, has actually been eying the vacant quarterback coaching job.

While the Bucs are interviewing him for both positions, Berbenich is believed to be most interested in the quarterbacks coaching job, a role he’s aspired to have since he first began working in the NFL with the New York Jets in 2000.

With reports of Berbenich acting as the man in the middle between offensive coordinator Greg Olson and Josh Freeman last season. The status quo, wouldn’t change. But what would is Berbenich’s job title.

If Olson is dead set on running a version of Jon Gruden’s playbook, then who better to have helping Freeman then a position coach who mastered the complexitity of Gruden’s playbook in record time.
