Derrick Brooks the former face of the Buccaneer franchise and 11 time pro-bowler at weakside linebacker is still undecided about his future as it pertains to playing a fifteenth season in the NFL.
Speaking at a charity golf outing at the Pensacola Country Club in Pensacola, FL. Brooks maintains he has several options still available to him and he will approach it with the same vigor he has approached the first fourteen years of his career.
“I just thank God I have choices, because in this business, sometimes you don’t, I will evaluate all the choices with the same enthusiasm and persistence as I’ve done with everything in my career. I just appreciate the process.”
“I’ve been around this game so long, I can adapt to any style. I’m not one that I have to play in this situation, this defense, this coach. For me, you put me on the football field, I’ll make the plays, I’ll make it happen.” Source: PNJ.com
Brooks also thinks there could be a slight chance he re-signs with the Bucs, but did say when the team initially informed him about his release they did extend an offer to him to join the Bucs in some capacity in the front office.
“Stranger things have happened. “I told (Bucs) we’ll get more serious about that when I decide to retire,” Brooks said. “But for them to extend that hand, it was very gracious.”
“I’m convinced I’ll play until I hear otherwise. And if I decide not play, that’s not a bad decision, either,” Brooks said. “I just thank God for allowing me to play as long as I have and be around the people I have.” Source: PNJ.com
While, Brooks might be convinced he can still play in the league. The cold hard truth is that the tape doesn’t’ lie, which is why he is still unsigned as teams are not confident he has anything left to offer other the leadership in the locker room.
