With speculation swirling throughout the off-season that veteran
quarterback Brian Griese would be traded or released before the start of training camp, as the Buccaneers have maintained they only want to bring four quarterbacks to camp. Rick Stroud, of the St. Pete Times is reporting the embattled quarterback has asked for his unconditional release from the team.
The thinking here, is two fold the team tried unsuccessfully to swing a trade during the draft, thus were waiting for a team to hit the panic button an offer a late round pick after they evaluated their options at qb during OTAs with there respective teams.
The other is the team is inclined to let Griese walk, but wants to make sure Freeman isn’t contemplating a lengthy holdout. Once a deal is in place with Freeman, Griese will get his wish to be released so he can shop his services around.
Either way a release, at this point is just a formalaty.
