Mike Florio, of Proofootballtalk.com, siting a league source is reporting the Buccaneers have inked free agent RB Derrick Ward to a four year deal worth $17 million. The deal pays Ward $6 million guaranteed in the first year, $9.25 million over the first two, and $13 million over the first three.
Ward, 27, was drafted by the New York Jets in the 7th round in 2004. He has spent five season with the Giants since being drafted by the Jets. At 5’11 233 pounds Ward is a between the tackles runner. He has amassed 1,750 rushing yards, on 342 carries, for an average of 5.1 yards per carry. Ward is a decent fit for a RBBC approach, he provides some speed and slashing ability and can contribute in the passing game.
While Ward represents good value, he must remain healthy, as he has had a history of spending more time in the tub then he has between the hash marks.
