The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finally signed a free agent from another team! Adam Schefter, of ESPN.com is reporting via twitter the Bucs have agreed to terms with punter Michael Koenen, formerly of the Atlanta Falcons on a 6-year deal. Of course it’s not the splash must fans had hoped for. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Koenen, 29, has a career average of 42.0-yards and a net average of 37.4-yards on 440 punts. With 150 punts being placed inside the 20-yardline and 134 that were fair catches, he’s also is a kickoff specialist.
The addition of Koenen will help the Bucs special teams play and ability to pin opponents deep in their own territory. After spending a sixth-round pick on Brent Bowden in 2010 and subsequently running through a multitude of punters last season before finally settling on Robert Malone. The Bucs were looking to upgrade the position and add competition.
