The Buccaneers continue to shuffle their roster, by announcing today that they have signed CB Mike Mickens from the Dallas Cowboys practice squad, and kicker Connor Barth to make room for Mickens and Barth the team released CB Marcus McCauley and K Shane Andrus.
Mickens, 23, entered the league with the Cowboys as a seventh-round pick (227th overall) in this year’s NFL Draft from the University of Cincinnati. He was released on September 5 before being signed to Dallas’ practice squad the following day. Mickens left Cincinnati as the school’s all-time leader in interceptions with 14, including three returned for a touchdown, while also compiling 233 tackles, eight tackles for loss, one sack, 48 pass breakups, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries while starting in 46-of-47 games that he played in. McCauley was inactive for Tampa Bay’s game against New England after being signed on October 20.
Barth joins the Buccaneers after being released by the Miami Dolphins on August 29. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2008. He played in 10 games for the Chiefs in 2008, converting 10-of-12 field goals and all 24 PATs before being released on July 28, 2009. Andrus played in three games for the Buccaneers this season and was 0-1 on field goal attempts while converting 6-of-6 PATs.
