Bucs bring back a familiar face

The Buccaneers announced today that they have signed S Corey Lynch from the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad and have also signed CB Marcus Hamilton.

Lynch originally entered the league as a sixth-round pick (177th overall) of the Bengals in the 2008 NFL Draft. During the 2008 season, Lynch appeared in seven games for Cincinnati and recorded nine tackles, one pass defensed and one interception. Lynch was released by the Bengals on September 5, 2009 during final cuts before being signed to their practice squad a day later.

Hamilton was released by the Chicago Bears on September 5, 2009 after spending the final 13 weeks of the 2008 season with the team. Last season Hamilton began the season on the Buccaneers practice squad before being activated on September 19, 2008. He played in nine games (one with Tampa Bay and eight with Chicago) recording three tackles, two passes defensed and four special teams tackles. Hamilton originally entered the league as a seventh-round pick (245th overall) of the Buccaneers in the 2007 NFL Draft and spent the entire 2007 season on Tampa Bay’s practice squad.

I watched Lynch on that show “Hard Knocks” this past offseason. He is very average and lost his roster spot to an undrafted free agent that is twenty lbs too light to be playing safety. I’m a little confused by this move. There has to be better safeties out there than this guy
