Four running backs one football, during last nights telecast of the game, I
found it quite amusing that the duo of Joe Buck & Troy Aikman who were calling the game for FOX, suggested that Raheem Morris and offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski are pulling for oft-injured running back Cadillac Williams to secure the role as starter in 2009.
After missing 22 games over the past two seasons due to serve knee injuries, not that he didn’t show an explosion when hitting the hole or finding the cut back lane, but not sure any coach in there right mind after signing Derrick Ward as a free agent and the healthy return of Earnest Graham to the lineup would have a player with the brittleness of Williams as there starter or even willingly ready to rely on such a back with a marred injury history such as Williams.
Williams, is a feel good story at the moment for the media. He has displayed average skills during his tenure as a Buc not to mention durability is a major concern when talking about Williams, then you still have the issues concerning his ability as a receiver and his tenacity when it comes to picking up the blitz.
Bottom line, at this point Williams will be better suited as a situational type player until he proves he is capable of lasting through a grueling 16 game schedule. But as the feature back in a 2-2-1 type of rotation, not what this fanatic wants to here.
No ill will towards a player who has proved he has a remarkable work ethic and the heart of a champion to come back from the devastation he has faced, but I for one am not ready to dump all my eggs back in his basket.
