Clayborn Gets First Football Rookie Card

by Staff Report on April 29, 2011

In an unprecedented fashion. The newest member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, defensive end Adrian Clayborn already has his first football card. Thanks to Panini America, manufacturer of such brands of football cards as Prestige, Donruss Elite and many others were pumping out cards of players as they were chosen during last nights draft.

As a football card enthusiast, I find it odd that none of the college logo’s the players played for are represented on their helmets. This might have to do with Upper Deck, having an exclusive contract with the NCAA to produce officially licensed football cards. As they are no longer licensed to use NFL logos on any of their respective brands of cards.

There might have been some kind of stimulation from Upper Deck, when the agreement was made with the NCAA as a way to strengthen there overall appeal with the college collector who looks for cards with players in there collegiate uniforms, thus shunning the card companies who are licensed by the NFL to produce cards.
