Dominik dicusses free agency with the media

by Roland Johnson on March 3, 2009

General Manger Mark Dominik, discussed free agency with the media after the team introduced new running back Derrick Ward. Charlie Campbell of PewterReport.com has the entire transcipt.

(Are you still in the market for more help on offense?)
Dominik: “Yes we’re still talking to clubs, and agents about players and if they do make sense and the fit is right then absolutely.”

(Was the plan to go after offense first or has it just worked out that way?)
Dominik: “No there was a plan to go offensive first. We felt like free agency did have a lot of strength in offense, and in the ability to add players that we thought could really help this team. We thought free agency was going to afford us that assuming that the contracts with the players made sense, but that didn’t limit us from saying that there isn’t a defensive player that made sense for us.”

Dominik, is atleast giving it the old college try at this point. It will be interesting if the team can trade dwon in the draft or acquire more talent through trades and free agent pickups.

A plan to go offense first? Riiiiiiight, Mark. As awful as they’ve always been they didn’t collapse the end of last year. They couldn’t even collapse cause they were never good enough to fall any deeper. I don’t see how the depth at offense in free agency was any better than defense. It seems like a good thing for him to say though since so far the only defensive player signed that wasn’t a Buc last year is a LB who’s name won’t fit on his jersey.
