Former Bears DE Alex Brown On His Way To Tampa

by Staff Report on April 6, 2010

Former Chicago Bears defensive end Alex Brown who is in New Orleans today visiting with the Saints, is scheduled to land in Tampa on Thursday per Adam Schefter’s tweeter account. Brown, 31, a veteran of eight NFL seasons has started 91 of the 127 games he’s played in since entering the league as a fourth round pick out of Florida. He has amassed 43.5 sacks, 5 interceptions, 40 passes defensed, 16 forced fumbles and 11 fumbles recoveries.

Former Bears DE Alex Brown, who’s visiting the Saints today, is scheduled Thursday to visit Tampa Bay.

The decision to bring Brown in for a visit and what could lead to his eventually signing on with the Bucs could be viewed in several different ways, and might render Jimmy Wilkerson’s career in Tampa a forgone conclusion, as he still rehabbing his surgically repaired ACL tear he sustained late in the 2009 season.

The other, is that from all accounts Brown is viewed a vocal leader in the locker room and a high effort, high energy player on the field that could provide leadership capabilites for such a young team still in search of a veteran pressence.
