Penn To Receive Highest Tender From Bucs

by Staff Report on February 17, 2010

The Buccaneers will be placing the highest possible tender on left tackle Donald Penn. Penn, who lacks the necessary six-years of accredited service to become an unrestricted free agent based on the owners opting out of the CBA and 2010 being an uncapped year reports Jason La Canfora of NFL.com.

Penn who has a higher opinion of his self worth then many others. Will get a very lucid picture of his value around the league this offseason. With the highest tender being placed on Penn, should he leave and the Bucs decide not to match the offer they would receive compensation in the form of draft picks (1st & 3rd).

With Penn’s weight ballooning up to well over 350 pounds this past season, this should be a telling sign in how the front office ultimately view Penn’s long term future with the team. If they don’t match offers from prospective suitors for Penn’s services and except draft picks in exchange, then the premier left tackle prospect in the upcoming draft Russell Okung could be a very realistic option at number 3.
