The Tampa Bay Buccaneers concluded their final day of a three day mini camp for rookies and tryout players today. While not a whole lot to talk about seeing as how many of the teams drafted players saw very limited reps in practice as the coaching staff wanted to take a longer look at the tryout players.
However, there was some news flowing out of One Buc Place this Sunday afternoon. For starters, Josh Freeman was on hand, along with the teams current third string quarterback Rudy Carpenter, presumably to take a look at what some are referring to as his new dynamic duo in receivers Arrelious Benn and Mike Williams.
An interesting comment made by head coach Raheem Morris who surmises that many of the nagging little injuries from the teams draft picks is related to the NFL Scouting Combine as players are not used to running full practice and are more accustomed to training for short-space movements.
The teams is expected to sign 3-4 of this years tryout players and based on what has been written and said this weekend don’t be surprised to see DT Boo Robinson, FB Rendrick Taylor, WR Preston Parker and CB Darrell Pasco signed for a further look.
There is also a quite interesting rumble starting to develop from many within the NFL circle that former Syracuse receiver and fourth round pick Mike Williams could be the “sleeper rookie of the year candidate.” According to Daniel Jeremiah, a former scout for the Ravens and Browns who tweeted today that Williams could explode on the NFL scene.
Sleeper rookie of the year candidate— Tampa WR Mike Williams… bigtime talent and thin depth chart.
