Carucci: Bucs Will Show Pretty Good Improvement

by Staff Report on June 21, 2010

During a live chat, NFL.com Senior Columnist Vic Carucci  fielded questions from fans of all 32 NFL teams. Not surprising there was only one question about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers submitted and answered, during the 1-hour long live chat. Interesting enough it would seem the fanatic wanted to get insight from Carucci as to what he thinks of the Bucs this coming season.

What do you think about the Bucs this year? are they playoff contenders? and which rookie will have the biggest impact on our team? thanks

Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

I’m not seeing the Bucs as a playoff contender, but I do think they will show pretty good improvement. As for which rookie will have the biggest impact, it’s hard not to point to the obvious: Third-overall choice Gerald McCoy, the DT from Oklahoma. For that matter, I think the rookie DT combination of McCoy and Brian Price from UCLA should help a great deal this season.

I’m sure, not many, if any fans feels the Bucs are considered legitimate playoff contenders in ’10. They do however, feel that the team should at least fare better on the field. But will still have some growing pains as the team will be the third youngest and depending on how many rookies and undrafted players make the final 53-man roster the team could be the second youngest in the league.

Its not surprising, that Carucci thinks the teams top two picks will ultimately have the biggest impact. Considering both players will see significant time in what many are beginning to label as a three many rotation with second year pro Roy Miller at defensive tackle and the fact the defense was gashed up the gut on the ground in ’09. It seems Varucci went with the safe bet rather then go out on a limb.
