Ward excited to be in red & pewter

by Roland Johnson on March 3, 2009

Charlie Campbell, of Pewterreport.com, has a very insightful interview with newly acquired free agent running back Derrick Ward, who is very aware of Earnest Graham. The two should provide the Bucs with a very physical and shifty back field that can be interchanged at a moments notice.

“I’m excited to be here and to get a fresh start,” Ward said. “I felt this was the right fit for me. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a great organization. I think me coming here and being part of this organization that my role can be to help this team get to the next level and that’s the Super Bowl.”

“This was my first choice,” said Ward. “I told my agent when this whole process started to get me to Tampa. He made it work for me. I’m a Buccaneer.

“I just thought it was a great fit. I know Earnest is the guy here and hopefully he’ll embrace me and I’ll embrace him and we’ll work well together. It’s going to be exciting. I wish we could start practicing today, but we have to wait a few more weeks for the first mini-camp.”

“I’m excited. I’m fired up,” Ward said. “I think Earnest and I will make a great combination. I think we’re going to turn some heads this year running the ball. I bring a lot of things to the table as far as a running back in terms of catching, passing, blocking and whatever the team needs me to do. I think Earnest and I will be a great complement to each other.”
