Warrick Dunn: Hall of Fame Numbers?

by Jim Johnson on February 24, 2009

The diminutive Warrick Dunn is the only player ever in the NFL listed at 180 pounds to rank among the top 20 in all-time rushing yards. In 12 seasons, Dunn, has rushed for 10, 967 yards on 2,669 carries for an average of 4.1 per carry and 49 rushing touchdowns. Dunn, has also caught 510 passes for 4,339 yards an 15 touchdowns. With 15,306 yards from scrimmage in 181 games, he has averaged 1,275.5 yards per season or 84.56 yards from scrimmage per game. Currently in 19th place all time in rushing yards, Dunn is within distance of 15th place with another 700 yard performance.

While many have said, Dunn was just to small to absorb the punishment an be able to thrive while having a long storied career in the NFL but with the heart the size of Texas, Dunn has been not only providing proof on the field, but also off the field with his many charitable contributions.

It is truly too early to tell if one day Dunn might get that call, it is clear his numbers stack up with some of the NFL’s all time greats.

I hope that numbers alone are not the criteria for consideration of the hall of fame. Dunn was a very good running back. Dunn was and is an exception man. He should get consideration for his deeds off the field alone. He is all that is right in man and the NFL.
