Bob Thomas, of Jacksonville.com is reporting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are showing interest in Everette Brown the undersized defensive end from FSU. Brown possess loose hips and an explosive first step that would greatly aid the pass rush, but might not be big enough to play LDE, as has been speculated in the past the team would have to move Gaines Adams to the left side where he has shown much better since being drafted.
“More teams are playing the 3-4 defense so, naturally, more teams are looking at me to play [outside linebacker],” Brown said. “There are 4-3 teams such as the Titans, Buccaneers, Falcons and Rams, looking at me to come in and play end, where I can really get up the field and get after the passer.”
Most believe the Bucs would have to trade up to secure the services of Brown, but that might not be the case according to Mike Mayock of NFL Network.
“There was some question at the beginning, ‘Was I big enough and thick enough to play in the 4-3 defense?’ ” Brown said. “After the combine and pro day, there were no questions. The scouts were saying, ‘He’s thicker in the upper body than we thought he was. He has good hips, and he doesn’t have trouble dropping into coverage and catching balls.’
“At the end of the day, I have no idea which system I’m going to be playing in, but I’ve shown to all of the coaches and scouts that I’m versatile enough to play either position.”
“There was a lot of heat when he first came out about him being a top 10 or 15 pick,” Mayock said. “I think that’s cooled off a little bit.”
Mayock, currently has Brown ranked as the third best defensive end avaiable in the NFL Draft that is scheduled for this coming Saturday, with some many smoke screens being floated around by teams, could Brown be the real target of the Bucs?
